ZRS Management is pleased to announce that company President Darren Pierce has been elevated to the role of Chief Executive Officer. He succeeds Steve Buck, who has led the company for the past 30 years. Buck will remain actively involved with ZRS as a member of the Board of Directors and in an advisory capacity.

Buck joined the firm, then ZOM Residential Services, in 1994 when it managed only a few  properties. Under his leadership, Buck transformed the small independent company into a nationally recognized name in property management, overseeing a portfolio that grew to more than 30,000 units in 2016 when Darren joined ZRS as Vice President.

“I'm leaving ZRS in a great place with people I think highly of and respect, and who will continue to build upon what we have here,” said Buck. “Darren is such a talented individual and is clearly the right person to follow me. This has been a long process that has allowed him to ease into the position and me out of it, making it as smooth a transition as you’ll ever see.”

Pierce has more than two decades of experience with some of the nation’s most successful real estate firms. Promoted to President in 2022, he has played a pivotal role working alongside Buck and the executive team in expanding the firm’s assets under management, tripling its portfolio to over 90,000 units. ZRS now ranks 19th on the National Multifamily Housing Council’s list of the largest property managers in the United States.

“Under Steve's leadership, we have developed a very dynamic executive team, and the long-term stability within that group has allowed us to continue to grow and propel forward despite not having a growth mandate,” said Pierce. “And you can see it in the approximately 2,000 associates that have entrusted us with their careers. Steve has created an environment where people can succeed and carve their own paths. Great people stay and elevate their careers here and that translates into outstanding performance for our clients and their investors.”

Earlier this year, ZRS further strengthened its executive leadership team by promoting Vice President Jackie Impellitier to Chief Operating Officer. Impellitier has been with ZRS for 25 years.

Pierce takes the helm as the multifamily market experiences a shift.

“The past year has been a time of helping clients with new deliveries that have been at an all-time high. We opened 60 lease-ups in 2024, which is double what we typically see,” said Pierce. “However, as the bid-ask spread continues to narrow, we expect transaction activity to pick up in the second half of 2025 and our attention will turn to assisting clients identify and close on new opportunities.”
